PCA Member Companies Recognize June as Safety Month
Washington, D.C. (June 5, 2023) — The Portland Cement Association (PCA), which represents the majority of America’s cement manufacturers, is proud to celebrate PCA Safety Month throughout the month of June with materials and resources for safety and health at cement plants. The observance of June as PCA Safety Month is concurrent with the National Safety Council’s designation of June as National Safety Month.
“No industry is successful in meeting consumer demand without the daily contributions of a dedicated workforce,” said Mike Ireland, PCA President and CEO. “PCA member companies know that to keep employees motivated and productive, they must provide them with a safe workplace environment and have well-developed plans in place should emergencies or accidents occur. The well-being of workers has and always will be the top priority of our industry.”
Throughout the month, PCA will focus on the four common incidents cement manufacturers and their employees must be aware of and control to eliminate injuries and illnesses:
- Week 1, June 5-9: Lock-Out, Tag-Out, Try-Out: avoiding risks posed by hazardous energy.
- Week 2, June 12-16: Haul Truck Safety: preventing incidents during powered haulage operations.
- Week 3, June 19-23: Fall Prevention: preventing employees from falling by using stationary and mobile platforms and issuing fall protection devices.
- Week 4, June 26-30: Respirators: eliminating and reducing dust exposures and providing workers with respiratory protection.
“Protecting employee safety and health in cement manufacturing is the goal PCA, its members, and their employees work toward every day,” says Tom Harman, Senior Director, PCA. “To support this goal, members of PCA’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee created safety and health education materials to focus employees’ attention on four critically important safety and health topics, and PCA is pleased to offer these resources to the industry.”
In addition to safety information, social media graphics, and more, the PCA Safety Month toolkit will host videos from industry executives with safety messages about each of the topics. The toolkit will be updated throughout the month with new materials, so visitors are encouraged to return for more resources.
