Designed as a practical reference for civil and structural engineers, Portland Cement Association (PCA) and International Code Council (ICC) have partnered in the publication of Seismic and Wind Design of Concrete Buildings (2000 IBC) by S.K. Ghosh, Ph.D. and David A. Fanella, Ph.D. This comprehensive reference tool, also valuable for plan reviewers, architects, educators and students, examines the design and detailing of reinforced concrete buildings based on the requirements in the 2000 International Building Code (IBC).

Code requirements are thoroughly explained, including the impact of the 2000 IBC seismic provisions and comparisons to the last editions of the model building codes. Step-by-step procedures for use in computing seismic and wind forces based on code provisions are also included.

Application of the provisions are illustrated by designing and detailing typical structural members in the following concrete structures, which are located in areas of low, moderate, and high seismic risk on different types of soil:

• Office buildings with dual and moment-resisting frame systems
• Residential buildings with shear wall-=frame interactive and building frame system
• School buildings with moment-resisting frame
• Residential buildings with bearing wall system
• Parking structures with building frame system.

This volume is the first reference publication co-sponsored by PCA and ICC. The two groups will partner on the next two revisions of the IBC Code in 2003 and 2006.
