ASTM International Presents Tennis with Bryant Mather Award

SKOKIE, Ill.—The  American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Committee C01 recently honored Paul Tennis, manager of cement and concrete technology for the Portland Cement Association (PCA), with the ASTM Committee C01 Bryant Mather Award.

ASTM Committee C01 Bryant Mather Award is given to recognize efforts of outstanding merit that further the continuing development of standards for hydraulic cements.   Tennis was honored for his outstanding administrative and technical support in advancing ASTM C150 in harmony with AASHTO M85.

The result of a six-year cooperative effort, the harmonized standards enable more efficient use of natural resources and cement manufacturing technology, while ensuring a basis for improved quality of concrete construction.

Tennis is chairman of ASTM Subcommittee C01.10 on Hydraulic Cements for General Construction which is responsible for the ASTM C150 Standard Specification for portland cement.  He is also a member of ASTM Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates and several ASTM subcommittees.

In addition, Tennis is a member of the American Concrete Institute International Committees 201 Durability and 522 Pervious Concrete.   He oversees the development of PCA research programs related to concrete durability and standards, which often lead to recommendations for improvements to specifications and tests methods. Tennis has authored or served as technical editor on more than 50 research reports on these topics.
Tennis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in ceramic engineering from Clemson University and a Masters of Science degree in materials science and engineering and doctorate in civil engineering, both from Northwestern University.
