PCA Endorses Andrew Wheeler to lead EPA

Feb 4, 2019

Washington, D.C. Feb. 5, 2019 – The Portland Cement Association (PCA) applauds the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for voting to confirm Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). PCA encourages the Senate to advance his nomination to the floor swiftly to confirm him and give EPA the stable leadership it needs.

“As Deputy Administrator, and now Acting Administrator, Mr. Wheeler has demonstrated a firm understanding of the science, policy and law underpinning our nation’s environmental policies,” said PCA President and CEO Michael Ireland. “Equally important, he understands the need to ensure that these policies protect human health and the environment while encouraging continued economic and job growth.”

PCA endorsed Acting Administrator Wheeler in a letter last month, noting his strong institutional knowledge and leadership for smart growth in American industries, while protecting the environment.

Ireland added, “The cement industry looks forward to continuing to work constructively with Wheeler to expand the use of alternative fuels, reduce permitting barriers to improving the efficiency of our nation’s industrial base, and implement other policies that will protect the environment and public health.”
