Three plants recognized for high safety, health standards

SKOKIE, Ill.—The Portland Cement Association (PCA) recognized three cement terminals that had the best safety records in the United States in 2014.  The companies were honored at PCA’s Spring Meeting in Chicago.

For U.S. operations three categories of terminals, based on employee work hours, were considered for this prestigious award.

The terminals honored were:

  • St. Marys Cement, Buffalo, New York—Less than 5,000 employee hours
  • Buzzi Unicem USA Inc., Knoxville, Tennessee—5,000 to 9,000 employee hours
  • Continental Cement Company Inc., Bettendorf, Iowa – More than 9,000 employee hours

“Employees at these facilities work to continuously improve safety and health conditions and set high standards that promote safety and health protection throughout the year,” said James G. Toscas, President and CEO at PCA.

This year the PCA the Logistic Committee reviewed the performance records for the hundreds of terminals the United States to select the ones with the best safety performance records.
