Lehigh Hanson SVP Recognized by Portland Cement Association

Aug 28, 2013

SKOKIE, Ill.—Portland Cement Association (PCA) recognized Tom Chizmadia as a winner of the 2013 John P. Gleason, Jr., Leadership Award.

Presented at PCA’s annual fall committee meeting, August 27, 2013, in Chicago, the awards honor employees of member companies who have exhibited industry leadership by taking the Association in new directions.  Awards are presented in each of PCA’s two categories of key strategic initiatives: Business Continuity and Market Development.  Chizmadia was honored in the Market Development category.

Chizmadia is the senior vice president for government affairs, communications and sustainability for Lehigh Hanson Inc., Irving, Texas.  His leadership within PCA touches nearly every aspect of cement industry and association initiatives. As co-chair of the MIT Industry Advisory Committee and former chair of the Mercury Advisory Task Group, he helped craft both a governance and deployment strategy for the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub. His work has made the research more responsive to industry needs, and his participation in PCA committees and task groups has helped integrate the results in both advocacy and promotion initiatives.

Chizmadia currently chairs the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and serves on the Communications Committee, the MIT Communications Group, the PAC Board, the Clean Air Committee, Sustainable Development Committee, the Energy and Environment Committee and the Federal Advocacy Committee.

The award is named after John P. “Jay” Gleason, Jr., who served as PCA president from 1986 until his retirement in 2007.  Gleason was known for his consensus building among both members and allies and for his strong leadership skills.
