Syed Jafar Bukhari

Research Assistant

As a student at Temple University, Syed Jafar Shah Bukhari and Ph.D. advisor, Dr. Mehdi Khanzadeh Moradllo, submitted a proposal for the 2022 Fellowship Awards. Their proposal, Examining the Abrasion Resistance of Portland Limestone Cement (PLC) Systems for Industrial Floors, was selected for funding that year. This project aims to provide the concrete industry with data to make informed decisions on the potential use of PLC systems in industrial floors. The outcomes of this research can be directly incorporated into ACI 302.1R (Guide to Concrete Floor and Slab Construction) and ACI PRC-225 (Guide to the Selection and Use of Hydraulic Cements), and can provide fulfillment/distribution centers with a cement system that is both durable and sustainable.

Previously, Jafar Bukhari completed his M.Sc. from Southeast University, Nanjing, China where he was involved in research on the substructure of reinforced concrete bridges. Jafar Bukhari is researching actively on making concrete more sustainable and durable in their concrete materials lab at Temple University. Under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Khanzadeh, Jafar Bukhari has been involved with ACI in assessing the Freeze-Thaw Performance of CSA Cement. In one of his recent projects with the ACI NEx Center, Jafar Bukhari explored the development and application of sustainable “low cement + high admixture” concrete mixtures; life-cycle cost analysis and life-cycle assessment was carried out for the concrete mixtures along with fresh and hardened state properties testing.
