Salt River Materials Group

Salt River Materials Group operates a major cement manufacturing facility, Pheonix Cement Company, in Clarkdale, Arizona, supported by two distribution terminals in Pheonix. Its Arizona operations also include aggregates, pozzolans, fly ash, and reclamation businesses in the Mesa, Scottsdale, and Tucson areas. Outside of Arizona, it maintains pozzolan and fly ash operations in the states of California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.

Phoenix Cement Company began operating in 1959 when American Cement Corporation constructed a plant in Clarkdale, about 100 miles north of Phoenix. The company has since completed a major modernization project with new, state-of-the-art kiln and milling systems to improve operational and environmental performance.

Phoenix Cement Company has the unique distinction of having a tribal affiliation. It was purchased by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in 1987. It was a natural fit for the community in its desire to expand its presence in the construction materials industry.
